The Plus-One Guide: Hiring a Companion for a Wedding

Why people hire a professional companion as a wedding plus-one, how it's arranged, and what to expect from the day itself.

Wedding season brings a specific kind of pressure: an invitation that says "and guest," and no one obvious to bring. A professional companion solves that cleanly — here's how it actually works.

Why people book a companion for a wedding

The reasons are ordinary, not dramatic. A recent breakup, a friend group that's already paired off, a destination wedding that's awkward to attend solo, or simply wanting composed, presentable company for a long day of photos, toasts, and dancing. A wedding plus-one is a genuinely common reason clients reach out for Event & Gala Companionship.

What to expect from the engagement

Your companion is there to be attentive, conversational, and easy to be around for the full arc of the day — ceremony, reception, dancing, the inevitable small talk with relatives. Nothing about the day needs to feel performative; the goal is that it reads as genuine company, because it is.

Briefing your companion beforehand

A short conversation before the day helps everything go smoothly: who's who, whether you'd like your companion introduced as a plus-one or described more loosely, and any specific dynamics worth knowing about (a difficult ex also attending, a nosy aunt, etc.). The more context you share during screening, the more naturally the day tends to go.

Discretion, if you want it

Some clients are open about the arrangement with close friends; others prefer it stays private. Either is fine — see our Discretion & Privacy policy for how we handle confidentiality, and mention your preference when you inquire so your companion knows how to carry the day.

Multi-day weddings and travel

Destination weddings or multi-day celebrations sometimes call for Travel Companionship instead of a single-event booking — worth mentioning if your invitation spans more than one day.

Getting started

Begin a private inquiry with the date, location, and a sense of the day's shape, and we'll take it from there — the same screening and matching process as any other engagement, arranged well ahead of the wedding date.
